Abstract
Argonne is committed to fostering a safe, welcoming and inclusive research environment, building from the foundation of our core values of Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity and Teamwork. This seminar will focus on one barrier to increasing diversity and inclusion at Argonne and similar institutions: the continued prevalence of multiple forms of sexual harassment in the research workplace. A summary of the recent National Academies report Sexual Harassment of Women: Climate, Culture, and Consequences in Academic Sciences, Engineering and Medicine will be presented, followed by a panel discussion including two key contributors to the report, representatives from across the Argonne organization and questions from the audience. The goal of this panel discussion is to raise awareness among our lab community of the pervasiveness of sexual harassment in research environments and the damage such harassment does to the progress of research and to the researchers affected, and to outline potential actions to help create a research culture free of sexual harassment.
