Keep these life hacks in mind as you enjoy summer activities.
- Wear sunscreen.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), youth and adults in the United States can do more to protect themselves from ultraviolet rays. More than one-third of U.S. adults reported a sunburn in the previous year, with rates higher among men and the non-Hispanic white population.
- Put down your cell phone and pay attention to what you’re doing and to the people around you.
Nothing is more annoying than trying to have a conversation with someone who is distracted by their cell phone. Except perhaps, for people who are being unsafe when using their phones. Most of us have had the terrifying experience of seeing a car swerving around the road because the driver is distracted. Put the cell phone down. The rest of the human race will thank you.
- Be prepared for severe weather.
Have two emergency kits, one in your car and one at home, and shelter and evacuation plans prepared. Make sure your family knows what to do in the event of an emergency and where to meet if a natural disaster strikes. At work, know where to shelter and at least two exit routes out of your building.
All employees are encouraged to submit safety shares for inclusion in the Safety Share Library. Submission details are available on Inside Argonne.
Each month a safety share submitted by an individual will be selected by Environment, Safety and Quality Assurance to receive a Spot Award for demonstrated safety leadership. The Spot Award program offers three award levels: gold ($100), silver ($50) and bronze ($25).
