The Argonne Club is reaching out to veterans who wish to serve as campaign ambassadors for the 2016 Veterans collection drive which takes place Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2016, through Friday, Nov. 11, 2016. The volunteers will pose for a photo with the donations before they are delivered to the collection point. The collection drive helps to gather and deliver personal care items to U.S. troops stationed overseas.

If they choose, the volunteers will be featured in Argonne Today with a short biography on their years of service. The Argonne Club also welcomes veterans who wish to volunteer for other activities during the collection, including helping with packing up the donations and delivering them to the VFW.

All veterans from Argonne, the U.S. Department of Energy, University of Chicago and New Brunswick Laboratory are invited to participate. Interested veterans can contact Argonne Club President Suellen K. Cook at (630) 252-3672.

The annual collection drive is made possible by the generous support of the laboratory community and the Lemont Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Post #5189, Ladies Auxiliary Division.

About the Annual Veterans Collection Drive

Many, if not all, of the personal effects we take for granted everyday — such as soap, toothpaste and socks — are needed by our soldiers.

The U.S. military issues personal items only once to soldiers. Soldiers are then expected to provide these common items for themselves. Often it is difficult for soldiers to obtain personal items such as deodorant, shampoo or toothbrushes in a combat-zone. These items are greatly needed by our troops.

Each November, the Argonne Club sponsors a collection drive for U.S. troops, providing the common necessities of life to ensure the health and well-being of our soldiers at war. Please join in making life just a little easier for those protecting security and freedom in far off lands.
