Utility knives are handy tools, and they are sharp. Really, really sharp. If you’re wondering how sharp, google: “hand injury image.” [Cringe.] Yes, they’re that sharp.
It’s important to wear proper hand and eye protection when using a utility knife and always cut away from yourself.
Read and share this safety share on utility knife safety with your colleagues and/or staff. This info is courtesy of the Worker Safety and Health program group in the Environment, Safety and Quality Assurance division.
Kicking off meetings with a safety share is a great way to break the ice, begin teambuilding from the onset of meetings and keep safety at the forefront of our minds each and every day. The Safety Share Library, binned by topic area, provides a variety of resources for your convenience.
All employees, groups and divisions are encouraged to submit safety shares for inclusion in the library. Submission details are available on Inside Argonne.
Each month a safety share submitted by an individual will be selected by Environment, Safety and Quality Assurance to receive a Spot Award for demonstrated safety leadership. The Spot Award program offers three award levels: gold ($100), silver ($50) and bronze ($25).
