The Women in Science and Technology (WIST) Program will host a First Friday Forum Monday, Dec. 12, 2016, at noon in the Bldg. 213 Cafeteria Private Dining Room.
This month’s First Friday Forum features Jean M. Moran, who will present “Striving for Equity: Women in Medical Physics.”
The American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) is the primary organization for medical physicists in the United States. The AAPM consists primarily of physicists practicing in the fields of radiation oncology, radiology, and nuclear medicine. Approximately 20 percent of AAPM members are women. To constructively increase the presence and effectiveness of women as leaders in the AAPM, the Women’s Professional Subcommittee was launched in 2010, chaired by Jean Moran. The presence of women as members and leaders in the AAPM will be presented along with the status of women in the AAPM applying for NIH grants. The goals and activities of the Women’s Professional Subcommittee will be shared along with ongoing efforts towards equity in medical physics. Current activities include the development of a workshop on professional development and an organization-wide survey to assess childcare needs for regular meetings of the society.
