A $250 million Grid Modernization Lab Consortium Call is expected to be announced in mid to late November. In preparation, a series of lab-wide meetings will be held during the next few weeks to build proposal teams and strategize on the best way to leverage Argonne’s capabilities, expertise and outside partnerships.
The meetings are open to all Argonne research staff. The laboratory is focused on building cross-disciplinary teams for the proposals. GMLC is a multi-office program that includes EERE, and the offices of electricity, fossil energy, nuclear energy, and Cybersecurity, Energy Security and Emergency Response. An initial list of call topics have been released. More topics will be forthcoming.
An informational meeting on Thursday, Nov. 1, from 3 to 4 pm in Building 362 Auditorium will go over the history of the GMLC, Argonne’s experiences in the first call in 2016, the lab strategy for this call and answer questions from attendees. This meeting will be facilitated by Mark Petri, Argonne GMLC representative, Guenter Conzelmann (ES) and Mihai Anitescu (MCS).
Program Development funds have been allocated to help with select proposal development. The laboratory management would like to track proposals to optimize submissions and collect metrics to provide lessons learned for future funding calls.
Working group meetings will be held on each topic area in the coming weeks. These will be hosted by experts in those topic areas from across the laboratory. The aim of the working group meetings is to brainstorm proposal ideas, competitive insight on other laboratories who might apply and strategize on collaboration options.
Anyone interested in the GMLC call should register here to get a call-in number for the Nov. 1 information meeting, to be notified when working group meetings will occur, and to be put on an email list for updates on the call and subsequent Argonne grid projects.
